Local Sports for Tuesday August 14


Hockey season is getting underway in the Fort Frances area.

The Fort Frances Girls Women's Hockey Association will hold its registration for the coming season on August 29 and 30 at the Memorial Sports Centre.

Tryout dates for all teams, including a new midget girls competitive team, will be announced at that time.




The selection of a regional AAA bantam team will begin in September.

The Northwestern Ontario North Stars will host a selection camp in Vermilion Bay September 8 and 9.

Final evaluations take place in Fort Frances later in the month.

The tryout is open to all players born in 1998 or '99 who live in the Kenora or Rainy River district.




Fort Frances Muskies Football club is ramping up for another season in the Winnipeg High School Football League.

It will start practices at Muskie field beginning next Monday from 6 p.m.to 8 p.m.

Any student entering grade 9 through grade 12 wanting to play should attend.




Registration is now being accepted for next year's Freeze Yer Gizzard Blizzard Run in International Falls.

It's set for January 19.

Anyone who signs up through the event's website before the end of this year pay five-dollar less on registration.
