Local Sports For Friday October 12

Fort Frances Lakers will be honouring former player Jaret LeClair tonight.

He was killed in a car accident near his home community of Pic River First Nation last Sunday.

A moment of silence will be held prior to tonight's home game with the Wilderness.

Players will also the wear LeClair's initials on their helmets the rest of the season.

The family has requested the team not retire his jersey.



International Falls was the host of a cross country run meet, attracting schools on both sides of the border.

Sydney Radigan of Fort Frances High School finished first overall in the junior girls run.

Grace Gilbert of Falls High had a team high 9th place showing.

In the varsity girls event, Lexi Erickson of Falls High School was third.

Hailey Beaudry had the best finish among Fort Frances High runners in 43rd.

On the boys side, Marco Griffifth from the Falls had a team high finished 21st place showing while Dexter Fischuk had the highest finish for Fort High.



An eight team junior girls basketball tournament goes today at Fort Frances High School.

The Muskies will open the tournament with a game against Thomas Aquinas at 12 noon.

The Rainy River Owls are also involved and will face Thunder Bay's Westgate in a late afternoon game.



Grid iron action on both sides of the border today.

Fort Frances Muskies host Steinback beginning at 3 pm.

International Falls Broncos travel to Hibbing.



Falls High School girls swim team took seven of 12 events in competition against the team representing schools in Warroad-Roseau-Greenbush and Middlebrook.

Breanna Shofner took 50 yard and 100 yard free events.

Abby Kostiuk won the 100 yard backstroke.

Jessica Hell took first in diving.

Broncos relay teams earned the three other wins.



International Falls Broncos girls volleyball dropped a four-set decision to Eveleth-Gilbert yesterday.

The team is in an Iron Range Conference volleyball tournament tomorrow in Esko.



Steve Arpin won't be racing in a rescheduled ARCA series race in Duqoin, Illinois.

Arpin was drive in the race back in September for Venturini Motorsports, before the race was postponed due to weather.

The car has been given to another driver for Sunday's race.
