Local Sports For Friday September 28


Just a single win for Fort Frances Muskies courts team during its visit yesterday to Kenora.

The junior boys's volleyball team swept past the Beaver Brae Broncos in 3-straight games, 25-22, 25-12 and 25-9.

The senior boys lost in three while on the basketball court, the senior girls fell 35-28.

The junior girls also lost 33-23.



International Falls Broncos girls volleyball team won its second straight set, sweeping Eveleth-Gilbert in 3-games.




Top five finishes by Lexi Erikson and Sydney Raboin gave the Falls High School girls cross country run team a second place finish at a meet in Hibbing.

Erickson was second while Raboin finished 4th.

The boys team was fifth overall despite not having a runner finish better than 24th.




Falls High School girls swim team earned a split in wins against Virginia in head to head competition, but were beaten out by points.

Breanna Shofner with a pair of wins, Sarah Todd, Courtney Klow and and Clair Herzig won individual events.

Shofner, Todd, Klow and Emily Saari combined for a win in the 200 yard medley relay.




International Falls Broncos football team has a home game against Hermantown.

Game time at Bronco Stadium is 7 pm

Broncos are winless in their last three while Hermantown has given up just six points in three straight wins





Fishing in the Rainy River Walleye tournament kicks off this morning from Hannam Park.

A total of 90 anglers teams are involved.




Fort Frances Lakers are on home ice tonight after dropping their season opener Wednesday night against the Minnesota Iron Rangers.

Lakers will play the first of a home and home series with the Minnesota Wilderness.

The game is scheduled for the Ice for Kids Arena beginning at 7:30 p.m.

Town crews have worked some lengthy hours to get ice back in the rink after repairs to the ice plant were completed earlier this week.




Problems for the SIJHL Sioux Lookout Flyers.

The club was forced to postpone a game earlier this week and cancelled two more weekend contests because of injuries and registration issues of new players diminishing its ranks

The club hopes to resume play October 12 when they host the Minnesota Wilderness.
