Local Sports For Thursday September 27


Fort Frances Lakers dropped a 3-2 decision to the Minnesota Iron Rangers in Hoyt Lakes to open their SIJHL season.

Kevin Kurm and Owen Stauber scored for the Lakers who will host the Minnesota Wilderness tomorrow night at the 52 Canadians Rink.




Three Fort Frances High School golfers are in Kenora today for the right to compete in next month's all Ontario championship next month.

Abe Germain, Brandon Sinclair and James Brown join golfers from around the region for the NWOSSA finals.




A couple of podium finishes for Fort Frances High School at a cross country run in Kenora.

Tyler Jourdain was third in the senior boys race.

Dexter Fichuk was only a few second back in 4th with Thomas Lepine placing 5th.

Hailey Beaudry was 2nd with Sydney Radigan finishing 3rd in the junior girls event.

Jenna Wilson had a fourth place finish in the senior girls race.






Elsewhere on the high school sports front, Fort Frances Muskies court teams are in Kenora for games against the Beaver Brae Broncos.

The International Falls Broncos girls volleyball hosts Eveleth-Gilbert, 7 p.m. at Falls high School.




Week two of the Fort Frances Women's Volleyball League goes tonight.

Notorious D-I-G, Scared Hitless and Bump it Up are tied for first in the standings with six points each.




Rainy River Walleye tournament kicks off this afternoon with the annual parade of boats.

It goes at 4 p.m. with participating anglers showing off their boats down Sixth and Main Streets.

The 90 angler teams hit the waters for the first of two days of fishing tomorrow.
