Local Sports For Friday October 19

Fort Frances Lakers defeated the Minnesota Iron Rangers 4-1.

Colton Spicer, Davis Smith, Brendan Cawston and Jon Carlson with the goals.

Jameson Shortreed got the win in net in his first game as a Laker since being acquired in a trade from Drumheller of Alberta.



Fort Frances Lakers were busy off the ice as well.

Ryan Wildman was sent to the Abitibi Eskimos while Brennan Nesrallah was shipped to Elliot Lake of the Northern Ontario junior league for player development fees.

Tyler Tuneberg was traded to the Minnesota Iron Rangers for defenceman Cody Wickstrom.



Former Fort Frances Muskie Courtney Easton scored twice in helping Confederation College women's hockey team defeat Lakehead University 8-2.

Other former Muskies Jessica Taggart and Melanie Scott earned assists in the game.



Fort Frances Muskies junior girls basketball team ran its record to 4-and-1 with a 40-19 win over the Dryden Eagles at Fort high.

The seniors girls team lost 48-29 to the Eagles.

On the volleyball court, both the Muskies junior and seniors boys teams lost to Dryden in 5 sets.




Fort Frances Muskies football team takes its 2-4 record into Winnipeg this afternoon for a game against St. Norbert Collegiate.



Atikokan Voyageurs took both the junior and senior boys volleyball matches played against Rainy River yesterday in Atikokan.

The juniors got by the Owls in 4 games to take over second spot in the standings.

The seniors defeated Rainy River in 5 games to tied the Owls and two other teams for fourth place.




There's a close race developing for the lead in the Fort Frances Women's Volleyball League.

Gillons's Insurance Cougars still holds down top spot after play last night, but three teams, Notorious D-I-G, Bump it Up and Scared Hitless are now just a point back in second



Members of the Fort Frances Aquanauts Swim Team begin their season this weekend by hosting a meeting at the Memorial Sports Centre.

Over one hundred swimmers from Thunder Bay, Kenora, Dryden, Red Lake as well as the local club will take party.

The swimming begins tonight and admission is free.
