Local Sports For Thursday October 25

Mason Meyer's goal midway through the third period stood as the winner as the Fort Frances Lakers upset the league leading Minnesota Wilderness 4-3 in Cloquet.

The Lakers are now a point back of Thunder Bay for second spot in the SIJHL.

Colton Spicer, Kevin Kurm and Jacob Nolan also replied for the Fort.



Two members of the Fort Frances Lakers have been invited to attend the Canada West selection camp in preparation for this year's World Junior A Challenge in Nova Scotia.

Defenceman Jon Carlson and forward Colton Spicer will join 60 other players from across western Canada vying for 22 spots on the teams.

The camp will be held next week in Calgary.



In the Borderland Women's Indoor Soccer League,  Laureen Peters scored three times in giving Team Black a 5-4 win over Team Purple to stay perfect after three weeks.

Team Red won its third straight in a 4-3 decision over Team Pink.

Melanie Hyatt had a pair of goals for the Reds.

Tara MacEachern scored twice as White blanked Blue 4-0.



International Falls Bronco girls volleyball team defeated Eveleth-Gilbert in 3 games to advance to the quarter-finals of the Section 7AA championship.

The Broncos now face Hermanton tomorrow in Virginia.



Two members of the Fort Frances High School cross country run team has earned berths to the provincial championships.

Sydney Radigan placed 2nd in the midget girls division and Hailey Beaudry was 5th in junior girls at the NorWossa championships in Thunder Bay.

They'll attend the all-Ontario event in Ottawa November 3.
