Local Sports For Thursday October 18

A familiar face is back with the Fort Frances Lakers.

Goaltender Jameson Shortreed has been acquired from Drumheller of the Alberta Junior Hockey League where he had played five games this season.

Shortreed played for the Lakers for two seasons, before leaving in 2011 to continue his career in the North American Hockey League and then the Alberta league.



Fort Frances Lakers will be looking for a win tonight to keep a hold of their fourth place standing in the SIHJL.

The Minnesota Iron Rangers come to the Ice For Kids Arena tonight a single point behind the Lakers.

It's the first meeting between these two teams since the Lakers season opening loss last month.


In the Borderland Women's Indoor Soccer League, Jessica Caul scored three times in leading Team Red to a 6-2 win over Team White.

Sydney Radigan found the net three times in Team Purple's 4-2 win over Team Pink.

Laureen Peters notched five goals and Tanya Hughes added four more as Team Black shutout Team Blue 10-0.



International Falls Broncos football team ended its regular season with an 16-6 win over Greenway.



Fort Frances Muskies court teams open the second half of their NorWossa schedule at home with games against Dryden.




Week five of the Fort Frances women's volleyball league goes tonight with tight battle for the league lead.

Gillon's Insurance Cougars hold down top spot with Scared Hitless a point back and two teams, Notorious D-I-G and Bump it Up sitting just two points behind in third.
