Local Sports For Friday October 5


Fort Frances Muskies court teams left Dryden with only one win in their pocket.

That coming from the junior girls basketball team.

The senior girls team lost 43-39 with the Eagles winning baskets coming in the final seconds.

The senior boys volleyball team fell to Dryden in four sets while the juniors lost in five.




At Fort Frances High School today, it's the Muskies football team's homecoming game facing Neelin of Brandon.

Kick-off is scheduled for 1 p.m.

The International Falls Broncos football team is on the road to face Melrose tonight.




The International Falls Broncos girls volleyball swept past Ely in three games.




Crossroads School in Devlin was host to a District Cross Country Run for elementary students.

Grade 4 winners were Taya Haggarty - Riverview and Tyrell Kempt

Jill Calder of J.W. Walker and Jesse Phillips of Our Lady of the Way took the Grade 5 races.

Grade 6 honours went to Hailee Barnard of J.W. Walker and Jackson Arpin of Riverview.

Alexa Veldhuisen from the Sturgeon Creek Alternative Program and Ian Tookenay at J.W. Walker were the grade 7 winners.

Jessica Steele from Donald Young  and Cole Tymkin of St. Francis School were the Grade 8 victors.

Over 250 students participated in rainy, windy conditions.




Fort Frances Lakers will try to crack the win column tonight with a game in Thunder Bay against the North Stars.

The Lakers are last in the league after losing their first three games, managing a mere four goals in that span.
