Local Sports For Monday October 15

Merritt Rysavy and Colton Spicer each scored twice as the Fort Frances Lakers rolled to an 8-3 win over Thunder Bay Saturday at the Ice For Kids Arena.

Jon Bachman, Kevin Kurm, Alex Bruess and Mason Meyer also scored for the Lakers who have now won four straight.

The Lakers are in Dryden tonight.



Fort Frances Canadians lost 4-0 to Sioux Lookout and beat Dryden 6-3 in Northwestern Ontario Peewee AA League action Saturday in Dryden.

Sullivan Shortreed, Ethan Carlson-Jourdain, Jake Clenndening, Ian Tookenay, Eric Pitkanen, and Kendyn Faragher had the goals in the win over Dryden.



Fort Frances native Joe Basaraba had a pair of goals as the Minnesota-Duluth Bulldogs split their season opening games with Ohio State on the weekend.




Emo's Luke Judson had goal and two assists in Lakehead University's 7-3 win over York on Friday, but was shutout on the score sheet in the ThunderWolves 6-3 loss Saturday.



Three Fort Frances women figured prominently in the scoring of Confederation College Thunderhawks hockey team at a tournament in Thunder Bay on the weekend.

The College team went 3-and-1.

Jessica Taggart scored the winning goal while Courtney Easton added another in the Hawks 3-1 win over Manitoba's Prairie Blaze yesterday.

Melanie Scott scored twice in a 3-1 win Saturday over the Manitoba Silvertips.

The Hawks will be in International Falls this weekend for a tournament hosted by the Rainy River Voyageurs.




Rainy River Owls beat the Fort Frances Muskies 26-22 to win the junior girls basketball tournament held on the weekend at Fort High.



International Falls Broncos girls volleyball team finished 5th at a Section 7A tournament in Grand Rapids, beating Superior 2-straight in their final game.

The junior varsity team was 4th in a junior tournament.



Falls High School girls swim team was third at the True Team Sectionals in Grand Rapids.

Third place finishes by Abby Kostiuk in the 50 yard backstroke and the 200 yard individual medley relay team were the Broncos best finishes.



Rainy River Voyageurs women's volleyball team dropped games to Central Lakes on Friday and Northland on Saturday.
