Local Sports for Monday October 22

A host of medals for the Fort Frances Aquanauts Swim Team at its season opening meet on the weekend at the Memorial Sports Centre.

Levi Rittau took gold high-point in the boys 15 & over age group with 8 first place finishes.

Regan Danylchuk claimed silver in the Girls 13-14 age group with 3 firsts, 2 seconds, 4 thirds and a fourth.

Mitchell Riordon took bronze in the boys 13-14 age group with 3 firsts, 3 seconds and two third place finishes.

12 year old Josh Cousineau qualified for the first time for four events at this December's Prairie Winter Invitational swim meet in December.



Fort Frances Canadians AA pee wee team split games played in the Northwestern Ontario Pee Wee League.

The Canadians lost 5-4 to Kenora in their first game with James Gushulak, Garret Woods, Sullivan Shortreed and Ian Tookenay scoring for the Canadians.

In the second, the Canadian blanked Sioux Lookout 5-0.

Cooper Witherspoon, Ethan Carlson-Jourdain, and James Gushulak with a pair tallying for Fort Frances.



Fort Frances Canadians AA atoms defeated Dryden in a pair of games on the weekend, winning 11-2 Saturday and 7-0 yesterday.

Kaleb Bruyere notched three goals in Saturday's game with Adam George, Cael Anderson and Carson Noga each scoring twice.

Jacob Albright and Drake Sheppard added singles.

Adam George had a pair in Sunday's win singles off the sticks of Sai'zha Norwegian, Drake Sheppard, Carson Noga, Cole Magill and Kaleb Bruyere,


The Canadians bantam AA team beat Dryden 9-3 Saturday.

Tyler Van Uden with a hat trick in the game.



Rainy River Voyageurs women's hockey team earned a split in its weekend opener with Iowa State.

The Voyageurs lost 3-2 in Saturday game.

Jaylene Anderson of Rainy River and Chelsey Clarke with goals for the home side.

Taylor Dixon of Fort Frances had both goals in Sunday's 2-1 win.



Emo's Luke Judson scored his team leading 7th of the year in helping Lakehead University Thunderwolves to a 4-0 win Saturday over Laurier.



Fort Frances Muskies junior girls basketball team won a tournament in Thunder Bay, defeating host Westgate 31-21 in the final game.



The Muskies seniors girls basketbal team shared in the win in the consolation side of a tournament in Thunder Bay.

After losing to Hammarskjold, the Muskies beat Superior and Westgate to reach the final against Dryden.

Rather than the NorWossa rivals play for the title, they agreed to play exhibition games with other teams in the tournament and share the consolation win.



Borderland Racing Association handed out its awards Saturday.

The late Keith McNally and Dennis Pelepetz were inducted into the Association's Hall of Fame.
