Local Sports For Friday July 19

The Big Grassy Braves are this year's regular season champ in the Rainy River District Fastball League.

The Braves beat Dawson 3-2 to clinch first overall while second-place Beefs Warriors fell 8-0 to Sight and Sound in their final game of the year.

Elsewhere, Manitou shut out the Sabaskong Lakers 1-0.

The Sabaskong Cubs squeezed by Northwest Bay 6-5.



Nicole Avis notched a pair of goals as the La Place Rendez-Vous Voyageurs defeated Taggs Source 5-1 in a women's division game of the Borderland Soccer League.

Jessica Caul, Katie Sinclair and Alyssa Holliday also scored for the Voyageurs.

Heather Wright replied for Taggs.

And Laureen Peters scored three in Boston Pizza's 7-0 win over Al's Racquet Stringing.

Claire Crichton, Melanie Hyatt and Abbi Perreault also notched goals for BP.

Registration is tonight at 6:45 p.m.with on-ice activities running through the weekend.



BMX racing goes in Atikokan for the first time.

A new track has been constructed at the new Quetico College School, formerly Quetico Centre.

Sunday's race starts at 11 a.m. and riders can register on the day of the event.



The sixth race of the season for the Superior Dirt Riders is in Atikokan

Registration at the Atikokan Motocross begins at 8 a.m. tomorrow with races starting at 11 a.m.

A practice has also been scheduled for tonight from 4 p.m.to 7 p.m. with a cost of 25-dollars to riders.
