Local Sports For Thursday August 29

Fort Frances Lakers kick off their training camp today.

Almost 40 players are expected.

Coach Wayne Strachan says he'll be looking to fill several vacancies.

Strachan hopes to pair down the potential roster to 25 with final cuts made in four pre-season games.



Big Grassy Braves are once again the champions of the Rainy River District Men's Fastball League.

They beat Barwick Tuesday night 8-1 to take the title.

The Braves went undefeated during their playoff run.



Tonight, the Fort France Her-icanes and the Red Gut Babes play for the Women's Fastball title.

As the Babes have yet to lose in the post-season, the Her-icanes need to win twice.



Fort Frances Muskies football team travels to Kenora for a trio of exhibition games.

They'll face the host Beaver Brae Broncos, Dryden Eagles and Winnipeg's Grant Park.

The team says its still welcoming new players to the squad.
