Local Sports For Thursday July 25

The first day of fishing in the Fort Frances Canadian Bass Championship goes today with the over 90 angling teams involving leaving the Sorting Gap Marina starting at 7 a.m.

Mark Raveling of Minnesota and Mike Luhman of Wisconsin are back as defending champions.

Weigh in at the Sorting Gap Marina begin at about 3:30 p.m.

Fort Frances Lakers have another returnee back in the line up for the coming season.

Patrick Sofer, who hails from Chicago, was fifth in team scoring last season with 13 goals and 30 points.

Coach Wayne Strachan says he sees the 20-year-old being one of this year's leaders playing a key role up front and producing offensively.



Senior Pharmasave is back on top in the Borderland Soccer League men's division.

It defeated Pharmasave 5-3 to leap over idle International Travel Services for first.

Jeremy Nussbaumer scored three for the Seniors with Jeff Campbell adding two more.

Ryan Brady, Rory Bagacki and Sam Berube scored for the junior team.

In the other scheduled game the La Place Rendez Vous Voyageurs forfeit to Manitou Forest Products.



Mens teams are back on the field in the Borderland Soccer League.
