Local Sports For Tuesday July 30

Couchiching Lady Raiders have taken over first place in the Rainy River District Women's Fastball League.

Their 20-3 win over the Sabaskong Cougars, combined by the Lynx 16-13 defeat of the Red Gut Babes has moved the Raiders a half game ahead of Babes for first.

In third game played, Fort Frances Her-icanes beat Sabaskong 20-2.



First round of the double knocked playoffs in the Rainy River District Fastball League goes tonight.

Stratton hosts the Sabaskong Cubs.

Rainy River entertains Northwest Bay.

Manitou faces the Sabaskong Lakers.

Sight and Sounds hosts Dawson.

Couchiching is in Big Island.

Big Grassy, Beefs Warriors and Barwick all earn byes. 



Kevin Metke scored three times and Brendan Cawston added two others as Pharmasave shut out the La Place Rendezvous-Vous Voyageurs 8-0.

Tim Metke, Sam Berube and Lucas Hudson rounded out Pharmasave's scoring.

In the other game in the men's division of the Borderland Soccer League, Manitou Forest Products forfeited to to International Travel Services due to lack of players.



In the Borderland Soccer League tonight, it's women's action with Boston Pizza facing the league leading La Place Rendez Vous Voyageurs and Al's Racquet Stringing tangling with Taggs Source For Sports.



Results from go-karting in International Falls from last Thursday saw Garrett Froemke take the Beginner class.

Jake Froemke win in Junior 1.

Gina Boyum took Junior 2.

Aaron Nelson won in Senior division while Brian Nelson took the Master division race.

Dane Olson claimed the win in the Heavy division.



Early registration is being accepted for a 5K event in International next month.

The 5K Bass Dash Run or Walk will be held August 24 as part of the International Falls Bass Championship.

The fee to enter is 20-dollars until August 10 with it increasing to $25 after that date.

Registration forms at Falls Chamber, Stride Fitness or on the Bass Championship's website.



The latest fishing derby in the Borderland will be staged this weekend by the Moose Lodge in International Falls.

It takes place Saturday at the Thunderbird Lodge from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Prizes will be given out in the categories of Biggest Walleye, Bass, Crappie, Northern, and Walleye stringer.

It costs 7 dollars to take part, 4 dollars if your under 16.
