Local Sports For Tuesday August 27

Fort Frances Her-icanes have earned a trip to the final of the Rainy River District Women's Fastball League.

The Her-icanes beat Couchiching 9-6 to face Red Gut in Thursday's final.

A second game will be played if Fort Frances beats the Babes who've not lost in the double elimination format.



International Falls Broncos girls volleyball team won its first match of the season, defeating Two Harbours in straight sets - 25-12, 25-14 and 25-8.



Fort Frances Lakers will play four exhibition games in advance of the upcoming season.

Home games will be played September 6 against the Minnesota Iron Rangers and September 14th against the Wisconsin Wilderness.

A game September 12 in Marathon against the Thunder Bay North Stars will be held in honour of former Laker Jaret LeClair and three other Pic River residents killed in a car accident last October.



Some success for a pair of regional girls hockey teams on the weekend.

Borderland Rage Under-14 team finished second at a tournament in Vadnais Heights, Minnesota.

The under 10-team reached the semi-finals of its division.

Both teams are made up of girls from across the Kenora and Rainy River districts.



Fort Frances Muskies football team is into its 2nd week of tryouts.

Practices at Muskie field will happen right after school at 3:30 p.m.
