Local Sports For Thursday August 1

A pair of goals off the boots of Jason Kabel and Alan Albao paced Senior Pharmasave to an 8-2 win over the La Place Rendez-Vous Voyageurs in a men's division game of the Borderland Soccer League.

Mike Webb, Daryl Alleston, Nick Spyridis and D.J. MacKintosh rounded out the Senior's scoring.

Jacob Bolzan had both for the Voyageurs.

In the other game, International Travel Services doubled up Pharmasave 4-2.

Ian Friesen, Dan Cunningham, Cameron Gobeil and Ben McBride scored for ITS.

Kevin Metke and Sam Berube replied for Pharmasave.



The Borderland Soccer League ends its week with a pair of games in the women's division.

Boston Pizza faces Al's Racquet Stringing.

Taggs Sources for Sports plays the La Place Rendez Vous Voyageurs.



A women's fastball tournament is being planned at Big Grassy First Nation.

It will be held August 16, 17 and 18 and hosted by the Lynx of the Rainy River District Women's Fastball League.

First eight teams to register will be entered.

Cody Wickstrom of Marquette, Michigan returns for a second season after recording 10 points in 40 games last season.

Coach Wayne Strachan says Wickstrom will be relied upon for a veteran presence on the blueline, increased minutes in play and to play a two-way style.
