Local Sports For Tuesday August 6

Rainy River District Women's Fastball League has closed out the regular season of its inaugural year.

Fort Frances Her-icanes beat the Lynx 17-5.

Red Gut defeated the Couchiching Lady Raiders 15-2.

Playoffs will begin next week.




Tough day on the track for Steve Arpin at the Global Rallycross in Los Angeles.

The Fort Frances native crashed in his opening heat Saturday then had to withdraw from a qualifying event due to an overheating problem.

It's the first time he's failed to reach a final this season.



Feature winners from Go karting at Emo Friday were Justin Besch in Junior 1 and A.J. Kellar in Junior 2.



A number of anglers participated in the Moose Lodge's fishing derby on Saturday.

Adult winners were John Hatzenburger for Northern, Kallie Kantos-Fritz for Bass and Kenny Long for both Crappie or Perch and largest Walleye stringer.

Youth winners were Parker Grindall for northern, Logan Coval for bass, Tanner Grindall for crappie and Nicholas Brnath for Walleye.



The Borderland Rage Under 10 girls team reached the consolation final of the USA International Hockey Cup tournament in Blaine, Minnesota, losing 6-1.

The team, made up of players from Kenora, Dryden, and Fort Frances area, won one of five games played.

Jillian Calder was the teams leading scorer with 4 goals and 6 points.



Several teams will be fighting to stay alive in the Rainy River District Fastball League  tonight.

Weather permitting, Dawson plays Northwest Bay

Stratton takes on Couchiching.

Big Island faces the Sabaskong Cubs.

And Rainy River tangles with Sight and Sound.

Losers will be eliminated from further play.



The Borderland Soccer League uses this week to wrap up its regular season.

Tonight's its women's on the field with the La Place Rendez-Vous Voyageurs facing Boston Pizza.
