Local Sports For Monday July 15

Jamie Davis held off points leader Gavin Paul to capture the WISSOTA Modified feature Saturday at Emo Speedway

The win comes in just Davis' third night of racing.

Christopher Leek took checkers in the Midwest modified division while Ron Westover won his fourth of the year in the Street Stocks.



Emo go-karters got their races in yesterday after being rained out Friday.

Raice Westover was the feature winner in junior 1.

A.J. Kellar took the win in junior 2.

Delbert Collette collected the feature in the senior open division.



Result from go-karting in International Falls from Thursday night saw Brady Nicholson take the win in the beginner division.

Tanner Williamson won in Junior 1 - Wyatt Boyum in Junior 2 - Ashley Jonson in senior - Blair Plourd in the Master class - and Dane Olson winning in the Heavy division.




Former Fort Frances resident Luke Skaarup captured first overall at a strongman competition in Thunder Bay.

Skaarup, now living in Thunder Bay, topped the field in three events and tie for first in another in claiming the title.



The SIJHL is back to six teams.

The league says the upcoming season includes the English River Miners out of Ear Falls, and Wisconsin Wilderness back in Spooner.

On-line reports says the Wisconsin squad will be run by Donnie Roberts who held the Wilderness franchise before its relocation to Cloquet in 2012 playing as the Minnesota Wilderness.

The Minnesota club has since joined the North American Hockey League.



CCM Hockey will be a big part of the season ending awards for the Superior International Junior Hockey League.

A partnership will see the iconic hockey equipment maker become the main sponsor of new first and second team all-star awards as well the Gary Cook Memorial Award for SIJHL executive of the year and rookie of the year awards.



Both games in the Rainy River District Women's Fastball League will be played in Couchiching First Nations tonight.

Couchiching and the Lynx kick things off at 6 p.m. with the Fort Frances Her-icanes and Sabaskong Cougars following right after.




In the Borderland Soccer League men's division, it's Pharmasave facing International Travel Services.

Senior Pharmasave is up against the La Place Rendez Vous Voyageurs.
