Local Sports For Friday July 26

Anglers are returning to the water this morning for the second day of fishing at the Fort Frances Canadian Bass Championship.

Jeff Gustason of Kenora and John Peterson of Bemidgi lead the field, pulling in over 19 pounds of bass yesterday.

Chad Adrain and Caleb Colwell of Green Bay are are half pound back in second.



Three athletes, two builders and a sports team are being inducted into the Northwestern Ontario Sports Hall of Fame.

Paralympian swimmer Andrea Cole and hockey players Katie Weatherston and Tony Hrkac will be formally inducted this September.

They will be joined by builders Brian Mallon and Brian McLean, as well as the 1991 Canadian Open Lightning Class championship team.



The regular season for the Rainy River District Fastball League is now over.

The final three games were played this week with the Sabaskong Cubs edging Sight and Sound 5-4.

Earlier Sight and Sound beat Stratton 5-2.

The Big Grassy Braves finised first overall with a 16 and 2 record after beating Rainy River 4-2.

Playoffs are scheduled to start next week.



Two teams in the men's division of the Borderland Soccer League earned wins because their opponents couldn't field a full squads.

Senior Pharmasave earned the win over Manitou Forest Products while International Travel Services was handed the victory over the La Place Rendez-Vous Voyageurs.



Go-karting race in International Falls, planned for last night, have been moved to Sunday.

Racing at the Rainy Lake Oil Raceway will begin at 6 p.m.

Meantime, go-karting in Emo goes tonight at 7 p.m.
