Local Sports For Friday February 7

Thunder Bay's Brian Adam junior is atop the standings in the Northern Ontario men's curling championship in Timmins after winning both of his games yesterday.

Dylan Johnston with Devlin's Mike Badiuk as vice split games to sit in a tie for third.

Stratton's Trevor Bonot won his first game, beating Sault Ste. Marie's Dan Lemieux in the early draw, but lost the evening contest to fall to one and 3.



International Falls Broncos girls hockey team has advanced to the semi-finals of the Section 7A championship after blanking Silver Bay 4-0.

Katie West,  Hillary Fox, Amber Tilander and Kaitlin VanHeel provided the scoring.

Keanna Carlson stopped all 18 shots for the shutout.

Broncos now face Hibbing in Cloquet next Tuesday.



The Broncos girls basketball team defeated Greenway 83-48.

Maddie Filipiak led with 20 points.



Fort Frances Canadians midget AA team is in tournament action in Grand Rapids.

They play their first game against the host club at 11 this morning.



Play in a regional qualifier for the Traveller's Curling Club championship goes this afternoon in Atikokan.

Five men's teams, including Lorne Jackson of Fort Frances, Craig Armstrong of Stratton and Clint Taylor of Atikokan are competing for a berth to the provincial event.

Kathy Jackson, who represented northern Ontario at last year's national event, is back with her Fort Frances rink in the women's division and faces the Val Stus rink from Atikokan in her first draw.



Draw 4 at the Northern Ontario men's curling championship is underway in Timmins.

Fort Frances Lakers are on the road to Thunder Bay to play the North Stars tonight before returning for a home against at Minnesota.



Fort Frances Muskies boys hockey team has a pair of home games with Sioux Lookout, starting tonight at 7:15 p.m. at the Ice For Kids Arena.




International Falls Broncos boys hockey team is home to Grand Rapids - 7:30 p.m. at Bronco arena.

The Broncos girls basketball team is at Virginia.




International Falls is hosting an eight team bantam B tournament this weekend, with play starting today, with games at Kerry Park and Bronco Arenas.

International Falls plays this afternoon at 4:15 p.m. against Fort Frances.
