Local Sports For Tuesday February 18

For the third time in four weeks, a member of the Fort Frances Lakers has been named player of the week in the SIJHL.

Mason Meyer takes the honour for last week after posting eight points in three games.

It's Meyer's third award win this season.




International Falls Broncos girls basketball team improved to 18 and 4 with a 71-57 win Friday over Duluth's Marshall School.

They face North Woods tonight.

The Bronco boys basketball team dropped a pair of games, losing 59- 50 Aitkin on Friday and 60-57 in overtime Saturday to Hinckley-Finlayson.

The boys hockey team plays Greenway tonight in the first game of the Section 7A championship.



A golden weekend for the Northwestern Ontario All-Stars at the Tournament of Champions in Brandon, Manitoba.

The Stars won the Bantam Double 'A' tournament without losing a single game, beating Peace River, Alberta in the final.

The team includes players from the Fort Frances area.

The All-Stars will challenge the Thunder Bay Kings on March 14th.



Some good showings for a pair of figure skaters from the Borderland.

Alina Eldridge placed 7th in the junior bronze free at the Festival of Stars in Sault Ste. Marie on the weekend.

Brianna Eldridge was ninth in the preliminary free.
