Local Sports For Friday March 21

Fort Frances Muskies sports teams are heading back home without medals.

The Muskies boys team ended its run at the all-Ontario championship in Burlington with a 6-1 loss to Haliburton in the quarter-finals.

The girls hockey team was eliminated from the playoff round of its championship in Sudbury on Wednesday.

The girls curling team skipped by Hailey Beaudry finished off play at the all-Ontario's in Brampton with a 7-3 loss to Richview of Etobicoke yesterday afternoon to finish with an 0 and 4 record.



Fort Frances Lakers bench boss Wayne Strachan has been named coach of the year in the SIJHL.

It's the fourth time Strachan has won the award.

Strachan guided the Lakers to the their first ever SIJHL regular season championship, and a fifth-place showing in the Canadian Junior Hockey League weekly rankings.



Fort Frances Lakers playoff game with the Thunder Bay North Stars is still a go.

It's the second game of the two-game total goal series to decide who gets choice of opponent in the semi-finals.

The North Stars hold a one goal edge after beating out the Lakers last Saturday 4-3.

Game time at the Ice For Kids arena is 7:30 PM.




Four teams have advanced through the A side of the Fort Frances Women's Volleyball League playoffs.

Scared Hitless, Kiss My Pass, Gillons Cougars and Alliance went unscathed in the first week of the double-knock style rounds.

The rest of the teams have been knocked to the B-side with playoffs resuming next Thursday.
