Local Sports For Thursday February 6

Lyndon Lipinski scored three times and added three assists, helping rally the Fort Frances Lakers to a 6-5 win over the Minnesota Iron Rangers in Hoyt Lakes.

Mason Meyer, Lucas Debenedet and Cody Wickstrom with the eventual winner added the other goals.



The Thunder Bay rinks of Bryan Burgess and Brian Adams Junior are off to 2 and 0 starts after the opening day of the Northern Ontario Mens Curling Playdowns in Timmins.

Jeff Currie and Dylan Johnston, with Devlin's Mike Badiuk as vice, are both one and one.

Stratton's Trevor Bonot and his Thunder Bay rink dropped both of his games on Wednesday.

The winner advances to the Brier in Kamloops beginning March 1.

Nine curling teams, including five from the Rainy River district, will begin play today at a qualifier for the Traveller's Curling Club championship, formerly the Dominions.

Lorne Jackson of Fort Frances, Craig Armstrong of Stratton and Clint Taylor of Atikokan skip rinks in the men's division.

Kathy Jackson, who represented northern Ontario at last year's national event, is back with her Fort Frances rink in the women's division as is the Val Stus rink from Atikokan.



Internatinoal Falls Broncos girls hockey team opens play in the Section 7AA championship with a home game against Silver Bay.

Game time at Bronco arena is 7 p.m.



Emo's Luke Judson scored the game winner in his first game with the Idaho Steelheads of the East Coast League as Idaho beat Utah 3-1.

Judson signed with Idaho after his former team the San Francisco Bull folded last week.
