Local Sports For Wednesday January 29

Fort Frances Lakers dropped a 2-1 overtime decision to the Minnesota Iron Rangers, last night in Hoyt Lakes.

Lyndon Lipinski had the Lakers only goal.

The loss, combined by Thunder Bay 6-0 win over English River, leaves the Lakers 7 points up on the Stars for first.



A three-goal performance from Carter Brown paced the Fort Frances Muskies boys hockey team to a 9-1 shellacking of the Dryden Eagles in a NorWossa league game.

Chase Ferguson had a pair in the game with singles from Aaron McDowell, Noah Loveday and Cole Tymkin.



International Falls Broncos girls hockey team skated away with a 2-0 win over the Fort Frances Muskies.

Amber Tilander and Amy Auran with the goals for the Broncos.



On the court, the Bronco girls basketball team improved to 13 and 4 on the season with a 65-33 win over Deer River.



Keith Aili of Ray, Minnesota, is currently leading the John Beargrease Sled Dog race between Grand Marie and Duluth.

He has about a two hour lead on his nearest competitor in the race that will end later today.



The Borderland Indoor Women's Soccer League kicks off its season tonight.

The Main Street Mayhem is up first at 7 p.m. against  Wright Physiotherapy Rockettes.

That's followed by the Boston Pizza Ball Blasters facing Cater 2 U Queens.

All games are played at the Fort Frances High School.



Rainy River Voyageurs basketball teams are on the road to Virginia today to face Mesabi Range.
