Local Sports For Tuesday February 25

Fort Frances Muskies boys hockey team has advanced to the NorWossa finals.

Last night, they walloped Dryden 10-3 to take that semi-final series in two straight games and will face Kenora's Beaver Brae Broncos in the finals starting this Thursday in Fort Frances.

Braeden Webb had a hat trick in the game while Kyle Van Uden and Cole Tymkin each had a pair.



The Muskies girls hockey team is also to the finals after an 8-2 thrashing of Kenora's Beaver Brae Broncos.

Shilo Beck led with a trio of goals.

Amber Jourdain added two others with singles from Shelby Tymkin, Amy Penner and Kaily Greengrass.

The Muskies will await the winner between Dryden and Red Lake with the Eagles in a position to take that series with a win tonight.



Two Fort Frances curling teams have earned silver medals at the NorWossa curling championships in Sioux Lookout.

Reece Jones' rink lost to Red Lake in the gold medal match 7-5, but still advances to the NWOSSA event in Chapleau next week.

Hailey Beaudry's girls team also advances despite losing to Sioux Lookout in the NorWossa final 5-1.

The Muskies mixed team finished 3rd after beating Whitefish Bay 8-5.



Fort Frances Lakers are in a position to captured their first ever regular season championship in the SIJHL.

They host the Wisconsin Wilderness tonight at the Ice for Kids arena.

A Lakers win put them into the 1 vs 2 showdown with the winner earning the right to select their semi-final opponent.

Thunder Bay North Stars can clinch second spot with a win of their own over Wisconsin Friday.

Meantime, the Lakers have been tabbed in the number 5 position in the weekly Canadian Junior Hockey League rankings.
