Local Sports For Thursday February 20

Lucas Debenedet's league leading 44th goal of the season early in the third proved to be the winner at the Fort Frances Lakers skated to a 4-2 win over the Dryden Ice Dogs in a game played at the Couchiching First Nation's Arena.

It was also Debenedet's 103rd point of the season.

Cameron Jackson, Bryce Lipinski and Mason Meyer with an empty net marker added the Lakers other goals.



In women's indoor soccer, Main Street Mayhem beat the Wright Physiotherapy Rockettes 5-3.

Jayme Fiset and Claire Hyatt each with a pair of goals for the Mayhem.

Nichole Renberg had a pair for the Rockettes.

The Cater 2 U Queens blanked the Boston Pizza Ball Blasters 4-0.



Rainy River Voyageurs basketball teams earned a split with Hibbing in games played at the College last night.

The women defeated the Cardinals 61-49, but the men fell 98-65.



Fort Frances Muskies boys hockey team will have to wait to open its NorWossa playoff series with Dryden.

Tonight's game has been cancelled because of the pending storm.

No make-up date has yet been announced.

The series will now start Saturday in Dryden.



International Falls Broncos, meantime, are facing Hermantown in a quarter-final game in the Section 7A championship.

A win moves the Broncos to the semi-finals to be played Saturday in Grand Rapids.
